Q & A

Jonne Amaya Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Jonne Amaya based?

Jonne Amaya is a Los Angeles–based fine jewelry studio specializing in custom engagement rings and alternative bridal jewelry. We work with clients locally in LA and remotely worldwide.

Does Jonne Amaya offer custom engagement rings?

Yes. Custom design is at the heart of our studio. Every ring is made to order and designed around the specific diamond or gemstone selected for each client.

What style of engagement rings does Jonne Amaya specialize in?

Jonne Amaya is known for sculptural, metal-forward engagement rings for the alternative bride. Our designs emphasize form, texture, and proportion rather than traditional bridal conventions.

What is an alternative engagement ring?

An alternative engagement ring moves beyond classic solitaire styles. This can include antique diamonds, unusual stone shapes, asymmetrical settings, east-west orientations, sculptural metalwork, and personalized details.

Does Jonne Amaya use antique diamonds?

Yes. We love antique and vintage diamonds, including Old Mine Cuts, Old European Cuts, antique marquise diamonds, elongated cushions, and warm-toned stones. Antique diamonds often have a  sparkle with more depth and unique character that cannot be replicated.

Can I work with Jonne Amaya remotely?

Absolutely. Most of our clients work with us virtually. We source stones, present options through video consultations, provide renders, and ship fully insured worldwide.

Does Jonne Amaya have a showroom?

We operate as a design studio rather than a traditional retail jewelry store. Because every piece is made to order, we do not carry inventory or traditional samples.

What is the custom process like?

Our process begins with stone selection. Once a diamond or gemstone is chosen, we develop the design together through renderings and collaborative revisions before production begins.

Do you charge extra for customization?

No. Collaboration is part of our process. We don’t believe custom design should feel transactional, and design revisions are included.

What makes Jonne Amaya different from traditional jewelers?

We approach jewelry more like a design house than a retail store. Every piece is built around the stone and the wearer rather than adapting a standard setting from inventory.

What types of diamonds do you offer?

We source natural diamonds, lab-grown diamonds, antique diamonds, and colored gemstones. We prioritize beauty and personality over rigid grading statistics. We also work with inherited stones, which in nature are natural diamonds. All other diamonds are sourced through us for quality.

Are lab-grown diamonds real diamonds?

Yes. Lab-grown diamonds are chemically and optically identical to natural diamonds. The primary difference is their origin: natural diamonds formed in the earth over billions of years, while lab diamonds are created in controlled environments. Unfortunately, with so many suppliers rushing on production, there is a range in quality and the majority of lab grown diamonds have poor-make. Lab grown diamonds need heavy filtering, which is one of the reasons we do not allow these to be out sourced outside of our network.

Does Jonne Amaya offer lab-grown diamonds?

Yes. We source both lab-grown and natural diamonds and believe the right stone depends on each client’s priorities, budget, and personal values.Unfortunately, with so many suppliers rushing on production, there is a range in quality and the majority of lab grown diamonds have poor-make. Lab grown diamonds need heavy filtering, which is one of the reasons we do not allow these to be out sourced outside of our network.

Does Jonne Amaya work with antique diamonds instead of newly cut stones?

Absolutely. Antique diamonds are one of our favorite materials to work with. We love Old Mine Cuts, Old European Cuts, elongated cushions, antique marquise diamonds, and warmer stones with unique personalities.

Are antique diamonds more sustainable?

Because antique diamonds already exist, many clients appreciate them as a way to reuse and celebrate historic stones rather than introducing newly mined material.

How long does the custom process take?

Most projects are completed within approximately 4–8 weeks after the design is finalized.

What is included in the custom design process?

Our process includes stone sourcing, design collaboration, renderings, revisions, production, and final finishing. We believe collaboration should feel natural and personal rather than transactional.

Do you only make engagement rings?

Engagement rings are our primary focus, but we also create wedding bands, anniversary pieces, heirloom redesigns, and fine jewelry.

Can you redesign heirloom jewelry?

Yes. We frequently repurpose inherited diamonds and family gold into contemporary pieces while preserving sentimental value.

What are metal-forward engagement rings?

Metal-forward engagement rings use sculptural gold work as an important part of the design rather than minimizing the setting. The metal itself becomes part of the visual story.

What is an east-west engagement ring?

An east-west setting turns elongated stones horizontally rather than vertically. This orientation creates a modern and unexpected silhouette and has become a signature style for many alternative brides.

What gemstones do you work with besides diamonds?

We work with emeralds, sapphires, spinels, tourmalines, antique stones, and many other colored gemstones.

What is the price range for a custom engagement ring?

Pricing varies depending on the center stone and complexity of the design. Most custom projects begin around $5,000, with many clients investing between $8,000 and $35,000+.

Does Jonne Amaya offer financing?
